The National Minimum Wage
Rates from October 2007
The minimum wage is a legal right which covers
almost all workers above compulsory school leaving age. There are different
minimum wage rates for different groups of workers as follows:
The main rate for workers aged 22 and over is
set at £5.52
an hour as from 1 October 2007.
The development rate for 18-21 year olds is set
at £4.60 as from 1 October 2007.
The development rate for 16-17 years olds. This
current rate from Oct 1 2007 is £3.40 an hour.
Annual leave entitlement will increase from
20 to 24 days a year for full-time workers and will increase again to 28 days
from April 2009.
It is important to note that these new rates only
apply to pay reference periods beginning on or after the date they came into
law.

Health professionals get
2.5% pay rise
"Disappointing" is the verdict from UNISON on the 2.5% pay increase announced
today for nurses, midwives, paramedics and other health professionals, after
weeks of delays by the Department of Health.
But the union welcomed the government's decision to implement in full the Pay
Review Body's recommendation.
"At last the long wait is over, but NHS nurses and other health professionals
will be disappointed with a 2.5% increase," said UNISON senior health officer
Mike Jackson. (30/03/06)
